Horizons at Ashley Hall receives $25,000 grant from Power:Ed to support Expansion of Summer Learning Program for Middle School Girls

CHARLESTON, SC – March 4, 2025 – Horizons at Ashley Hall (Horizons) has been awarded a $25,000 grant from Power:Ed, the philanthropy of SC Student Loan Corporation, to support programming at its middle school summer academic and enrichment program. This six-week summer program takes place on the campus of Ashley Hall in downtown Charleston and focuses on mathematics, STEM, literacy, social-emotional learning, the arts, and swimming.
All Horizons students qualify for free/reduced lunch or other federal assistance. The Horizons at Ashley Hall Middle School program exists to address the opportunity gaps that students in under-resourced communities of the greater Charleston area experience. Power:Ed funding will support essential needs for 6th-9th grade students, focusing on high school readiness and career exploration.
“We are so grateful to Power:Ed and SC Student Loan for supporting our program and the girls participating. Support of our middle school program will enable us to provide opportunities for our students to gain new experiences, have academic gains during the summer, and head into high school confident and ready for new challenges,” said Molly Rathbone, Executive Director of Horizons at Ashley Hall.
“Power:Ed and SC Student Loan are proud to support Horizons at Ashley Hall, and we are excited to see what these girls will accomplish! All South Carolina children should have the opportunity to succeed regardless of their financial circumstances, and we want to do our part to help reduce barriers and boost education equity,” said Power:Ed Executive Director Claire Gibbons.
In FY2024-25 Power:Ed will award $1,000,000 in grants to South Carolina education and career readiness organizations. In this third quarter, Power:Ed has awarded five grants (including this grant to Horizons) totaling $270,000. Grants are administered quarterly; the next grant funding deadline is April 1, 2025.
